A dental implant is an
artificial root made of titanium
Dental implantation is the state of the art treatment for replacing missing teeth, which integrate and become part of your dentition. As well as allowing you eat better, they are visually pleasing so that you can smile with confidence. Research over the past four decades has made the treatment modality both successful and predictable.
Now, you can replace a missing tooth by using a dental implant without filing down any of the adjacent teeth. The safety and quality of the implant system used is one other
criteria that effects the success rate. For this reason, at Cosmodent,
we have chosen to use the "Branemark System" , the most widely used,
safest and most reliable implant system on the market. We are proud
to be the "medical adviser and training centre" for the Branemark
System and Nobel Replace System implants for Turkey.

Implants are anchored to the jaw bone.
The prosthesis supported by implants usually is fixed. So, by
using implants, a fixed prosthesis can be fitted instead of
a removable one. |
|
|
To replace one missing tooth without
filing down the adjacent teeth. (Instead of a conventional bridge)
 |
|
|
To replace multiple back teeth with
fixed crowns. (Instead of a removable prosthesis with clasps)
 |
|
|
To replace all teeth in one jaw. (Instead
of a denture, and this can be done in 24 hours)

Can implants be used at all ages? UP

Yes . Only young people, under the age 17-18, who have not completed
their bone growth are not good candidates. For older candidates, health
is the determining factor. Many people, seventy and eighty years of
age, are better in surgical risks than someone who is younger with
medical problems. However older individuals are more likely to need
implants because they have lost more teeth, and have lost more supporting
ridges.
Will implants last a lifetime? UP

Many people have their implants in their mouths for more than thirty
years. The average expectancy is less and varies based upon numerous
variables, such as the general health of the individual and proper
maintenance of the implants.
Are all implants successful? UP

There are many variables to be considered in the success of implants.
-First, the patient's general and dental health. There must be adequate
healing potential present in the patient. For example, if the patient
is an uncontrolled diabetic, incomplete healing could complicate the
procedure. If such a condition develops at a later date after the
implant(s) has been done, this too may complicate the future of the
implant(s).
-Second, a proper diagnosis, implant placement and implant prosthetics
must be made by the dentist.
-Third, the implant(s) must be maintained properly by the patient
and the dentist. If either person is neglectful, there may be complications.
-Fourth, if the patient is a heavy smoker or an excessive alcoholic
drink consumer, the success of the implant(s) will be effected.
Are implants rejected by the body? UP

Implants are made of biologically compatible materials which have
undergone extensive testing over a period of several years. Since
these materials are largely metals, such as titanium, and have never
been living tissue, there is no likelihood of causing an antigen-antibody
response which could cause rejection, similar to that which sometimes
occurs with heart and kidney transplants.
Is there a risk of cancer? UP

There is no instance reported in dental or medical literature of dental
implants being the cause of a cancer.
Are dental implants used for cosmetic purposes? UP

Dental implants are not usually done for cosmetic purposes. The primary
objective of dental implants is to give additional support to replace
teeth. Cosmetic enhancement is possible with replacement teeth, however,
and your expectations should be fully discussed prior to treatment.
Is there a guarantee? UP

There is no way that one can guarantee anything which goes into the mouth and which is under control of the individual patient.
It is like in general medicine, physicians do not guarantee that the transplanted heart, kidney, or coronary bypass will keep a person alive for any specified period of time.
We can only tell you that we will strive to place the implant(s) properly, and provide you with the information you need to take care of your implant(s) at home.
We will be available for regular periodic follow-up appointments to evaluate your continued dental health.
Is it expensive? UP

Implant procedures, which vary in complexity and extent depending on the patient's dental condition and requirements, can involve a significant investment. A survey of 350 patients after completion of their treatment revealed that not only was it worth the investment, but that they would happily do it again.
Will there be discomfort? UP

Just as any surgery, there can be some pain. However, anesthetics
and sedation virtually eliminate discomfort during actual surgery.
Post-operative pain will be similar to that of having teeth removed.
Patients will be provided with medication before the day of surgery
to alleviate this discomfort.
How much time does it take? UP

It depends on your condition and needs, and the extent of the work
involved. Individual operations may take from one half-hour to several
hours. There may be as few as one operation, or a series of operations
and follow-up visits, which would be scheduled over a period of months
to insure proper healing.
